Sharing vs. copyright E-mail

"A Copyright Story," a dialog between a writer, Jason Robert Brown and a musical theater teenager about sharing, or not, sheet music.

"I have known for a while that there are websites where you can essentially download sheet music for free, and I am certainly aware that a lot of the sheet music being downloaded in that manner was written by me. While my wife Georgia has written extensively about this problem, I have tended to sit back, certain that anything I do would just be the tiniest drop in a very large bucket. But about a month ago, I was seized by the idea to try an experiment."

What's It Like To Be A House Electrician In New York City? E-mail

This article is posted here with permission from Gary Fails at www.citytheatrical.com

New York's City Center is an amazing theatre.  Built in 1923, the 2,750 seat house is one of the largest in the city.  It fills its stage year round with performing companies from all over  the world. Eric Schultz, City Center's Head Electrician spends many days there from 8:00 a.m. until after the evening's show, making sure everything runs smoothly.   The Head Electrician hires and directs the electrical crew, works with the visiting companies and lighting designers, and maintains the theatre's electrical systems.  It's a lot of work with long hours but it's also an interesting and creative job with the chance to meet new people from around the world, and to work with a wide range of theatre professionals.

pioneers in Lighting Design. E-mail
As humans we all are cursed by the need to view everything through our own personal knowledge and experience. If WE haven't heard of someone, then they obviously can't be important! It is worse even in the academic world where teachers fixate on the "hot" names from when THEY were in school. Certain people are thus somewhat arbitrarily designated as "stars" and then the astonishing contributions of everyone else fade to oblivion even though their contributions may in fact be even greater!

Welcome to HSTech E-mail

Hello. my name is Scott Parker and I want to welcome you to these design/tech pages. I created these pages over 13 years ago to show the public what my student technicians were doing. Designers & Technicians are equally important to a show as the Director and Actors. We are all charged with supporting the Author's words.

The pages grew. People visited. They would ask questions, share ideas, give suggestions and more. I would like to thank all the students, faculty and professionals who have contributed to our team. Yes, I consider us all part of a team.

Many schools do not have a production type person. If you have tech questions, click on the Techie Talk and join the mailing list. I hope that the info here will help those students who have the drive to "get the show up," do so safely and have fun.

Mission:

  • To assist High School Technical Theater students in their desire to learn about, create, and execute theatrical productions.
  • To enable the exchange of information in a respectful manner.
  • To foster team work and peer networks that will last beyond high school.

General Wet Stuff E-mail
Techie's Corner As a continuation of last month’s column about "Rain On Stage", this month’s column will focus on water on stage. Specifically, water in sinks. Next month, I will wind up this topic with a discussion of other types of water such as hand pumps, fountains, waterfalls, pools, etc. The basics for water in sinks are the same 6 major areas of consideration as for rain. Supply, storage, delivery, recovery, control, and water quality. For an in depth definition and explanation of these six areas, check out last month’s column under TRE back issues, December ‘98.
