Aim:
How to use a scale rule to draw a platform in scale
What will this lead to in his/her future?
Drafting ground plans in scale. This will also be required when making our models in scale.
Why does s/he need this?
To create technical drawings to communicate with the technical people who would build the scenery

What materials/supplies will the student need to supply?
Scale Ruler, Pencil, Paper
What materials/supplies will the teacher need to supply?
Should
have extra paper & scale rules for those who forget them. Also, if
the students have yet to purchase scale rulers: should have a new
supply.
What object/product shall the student end up with?
A simple drawing of basic platform shapes in 1/2" scale.
4x8, 4x4, 2x4, 2x2, etc... Throw in a triangle as well.
Process, notes, outline, descriptions, script for teacher.
Be sure every one has supplies.
Draw a scale rule on the board.
Have students work along with your explanations. Looking at scale rule, have them id the proper lines.
Understand how to read markings: each foot reading, inch readings.
Understand that the ruler has several different scales on it.

Activities will include drawing shapes in scale to represent the platforms we use on stage.
What items might students have come in contact with that are in scale?
maps: subway (not in scale...) map of school...
How will the student be evaluated?
Outcome of scale drawings.
