Running Crew Guidelines. A page on being a sound operator. By Mr. David Brewer

Brandon has been, and still is, a frequent contributor to the mailing list. He has spent many hours helping everyone who has had a question about sound. Since he has had several outstanding suggestions, I've created the: Brandon's Words of Wisdom page. He is now at North Carolina School of the Arts.

With a site like Kai's to link to, there's little need to add a bunch of other stuff here. He has done a great job of explaining sound for the theater. Thanks Kai! Kai's Sound Handbook: From Kai, "I started compiling a sound handbook which described sound systems (basically for the theatre) and how to design them / operate them as a lark a long time ago (okay, I was in high school). It was designed originally to educate fellow tech theatre students in the basics of sound."

Audio Systems Group, Inc. Publications "Over the years, we've authored a number of articles and application notes to explain design concepts, help our clients understand complex issues, and help users get the most out of their sound systems. Here are some of them."

Running the Sound Board during a show is one of the most important and complicated jobs in theater.

WIRELESS MICROPHONE THEORY Quote: "There is nothing in the world worse than a cheap wireless system," Hosch says. "It's scary when your future is hanging on a $ 1.98 battery. Anytime you can, you should get someone to use a wired mic over a wireless system." Scheirman adds, "and just remember that even the best wireless microphone system, a $10,000 system, is almost as good as a mic cable." (From TCI, May 1993, page 25).
