Molding

Making molding yourself can be a real money saver. This molding would cost $5-6 per foot. Here, we made it from regular #2 pine 1x6.crown.jpg (57129 bytes)
Here we see the profile of the molding. 8 cuts are made, all at 45 degrees. The center curve is the tricky part. To create that curve, we pass the wood past the blade at an angle.

I will add instructions soon. Don't try this with your table saw until you completely understand each step.

Notice the piece of plywood screwed down over the blade... We removed the safety guard but wanted to keep fingers away!crownblade.jpg (57023 bytes)
Here we have a jig set up to run the wood past the blade at an angle. The sharper the angle, the wider the curve. As you can see, we have 4 people working on this one piece of wood.crnfeed1.jpg (179405 bytes)
These two are holding the wood down to the table. Notice they are both using special "push blocks" to hold the wood down. Flat pads with rubber soles and plastic handles. KEEP YOUR FINGERS AWAY FROM THE BLADE!crnfeed2.jpg (84895 bytes)
The person far left is pushing and the person far right is the catcher.crnfeed3.jpg (79899 bytes)
